RS class: the first RSD59 ship launched at Nevsky Shipyard

A launching ceremony of Pola Anatolia, the first ship of the series of five dry cargo ships of river-sea navigation (project RSD59) being constructed to the RS class, was held оn June 5 2018 at the slipway of Nevsky Shipyard.

The ship is intended for transportation of general and bulk cargoes, including containers, industrial wood, round timber, metal, grain, coal and dangerous goods. The ship may be operated at the Caspian Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, White Sea and North Sea; engaged in voyages around the Europe and at the Irish Sea in winter, as well as perform transportation through the inland waterways. By displacement, the ships of RSD59 project are by far the largest dry cargo ships satisfying the dimensions of the Volga - Don shipping canal. One of the characteristics of the RSD59 project is a large hold 77,35 m long that allows oversized project cargoes to be transported.

  • length overall – 141 m;
  • breadth – 16,98 m;
  • depth – 6 m;
  • draught (at sea/river) 4,5 / 3,6 m;
  • ME output – 2 х 1200 kW.

Class notation: KM(*) Ice2 R2 AUT1-ICS CONT(deck&cargo hold) DG(bulk) DG(pack). The project was developed by Martine Engineering Bureau. The ship is constructed under the order of CJSC "State Leasing Transport Company" and LLC "Pola Rise". Commissioning of the first ship is scheduled by the end of the year, and the whole series will has been completed by July 2019.

A series of the RSD59 project dry cargo ships is also under construction under the RS technical survey at Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard in Nizhny Novgorod; the first ship has already been commissioned and 4 other ships are under construction.
