The innovative diesel-electric port icebreaker Ob (Aker ARC 124) was delivered to FSUE Atomflot at Vyborg shipyard on 18 October 2019.
RS Director General Konstantin Palnikov took part in the ship delivery ceremony on behalf of RS. He noted that an innovative direct current power distribution system implemented onboard gives an opportunity to save fuel on fractional loads mode. The system also extends the service life of main generators driving engines as it allows selecting their optimal operation mode.
The new icebreaker features a unique 12 MW propulsion unit with four AZIPOD azimuth thrusters of 3 MW each. The thrusters are located pairwise ahead and astern providing for the ship’s high maneuverability in ice conditions.
