The construction of the project NE025 ice class rescue tugboats to the class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) is being finalized. The launching ceremony of the last vessel in the series, Favor, took place at the Oka Shipyard, Navashino, on August 31, 2023.
A total of five units of fleet are being built under RS survey as part of the project. The vessels are designed for towing non-self-propelled floating units, winding and lifting anchors, patrolling the water area. The tugs are also capable of providing dredging fleet and hydraulic engineering works, delivering and deploying oil spill response equipment, as well as assisting in firefighting activities.
In the summer-autumn period the vessels can independently navigate through thin first-year Arctic ice up to 80 cm thick; and in winter-spring period – ice up to 60 cm thick. In finer ice conditions of the freezing non-Arctic seas the vessels can be operated on a year-round basis.
The construction is carried out at the order of the Marine Rescue Service within the framework of the Northern Sea Route infrastructure development plan for the period up to 2035. The completion of the series is expected by the end of 2023.
