MSC 110 Convenes in London: RS Joins International Delegations to Advance Maritime Safety Standards and Emerging Technologies

Today marked the opening of the 110th session of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 110) at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) headquarters in London. Representatives of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) have joined the proceedings as part of the national delegation.

The Committee is expected to review and adopt an extensive set of amendments to chapters II-2 and V of the SOLAS Convention, the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code), the International Code of Safety for High-Speed Craft (HSC Code) and the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes Code (IMSBC Code).

A central item on the agenda will be the ongoing development of the draft non-mandatory Code of Safety for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS Code). In total, 26 documents submitted by Member States and international organizations have been submitted on the matter.

The Committee intends to continue its comprehensive analysis of alternative fuels and technologies, aiming to develop appropriate safety standards and guidelines for ships and crews utilizing these energy sources. In addition, MSC 110 will address key security issues within its mandate, with a focus on cybersecurity, counter-piracy, armed robbery at sea and maritime migration challenges.

The Committee aims to review this year’s discussion outcomes of the following bodies:

RS representatives will actively contribute to both plenary sessions and specialized groups throughout MSC 110, providing technical expertise to shape new safety standards and operational guidelines for maritime navigation.

RS will report the outcomes of the MSC 110 in accordance with established procedures.
