RS and NAVIS to advance the RS normative framework

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) and NAVIS, a Russian manufacturer of dynamic positioning (DP) control systems, signed a Cooperation agreement with the goal of developing the RS normative framework in the field of DP Capability Plots.

The main purpose of DP Capability assessments is to analyze the station-keeping performance of a ship equipped with DP technology under external forces and in the event of a single or group failure.

The proliferation of DP Capability calculations in domestic shipbuilding as well as a widespread use of power plant configuration analyses at the design stage will result in more accurate measurements of a vessel’s propulsive characteristics and power supply capacity. Consequently, both the range of tasks a ship can perform and construction cost-effectiveness may increase. In addition, DP Capability assessment and evaluation allows to more efficiently plan vessel operations in a given region and time frame.

The cooperation between RS and NAVIS will provide industry players with accessible methodological documents on DP Capability Plots and, ultimately, an automated service on the basis of the new method.

Additional information:
