Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) took part in the 66th session of the UNECE Working Party on the Standardization of Technical and Safety Requirements in Inland Navigation (SC.3/WP.3/66) as a member of the Russian delegation.
The event was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Senior Principal Surveyor of the International Affairs Department Sergey Legusha took part in the meeting on behalf of RS.
In order to address the tasks of the Working Party, the following two groups were set up as subsidiary bodies:
Beyond addressing the standard set of technical topics, participants took part in the Workshop to explore the challenges hindering the sustainable development of inland waterway transport in Europe, as well as deliberate on potential solutions and outline future priorities.
The Working Party took particular interest in the report of Russian delegates on the achievements in the field of sustainable inland water transport and its integration with other modes of transportation. Special attention was paid to autonomous navigation, recognized as a key priority on the international agenda.
The next session is scheduled for June 2025, featuring a Workshop that will center on the legal framework for inland navigation.
