From March 9 to 13, the 12th session of the Sub-Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE 12) will take place at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization in London. Representatives from Russian Maritime Register of Shipping will attend as members of the Russian delegation.

The session’s agenda features a wide range of issues related to improving mandatory and non-mandatory IMO instruments concerning life-saving appliances and fire protection measures.

Notably, the Sub-Committee will continue revising SOLAS Chapter III and the International Life-Saving Appliance Code, including requirements for survival craft ventilation. Further efforts will be made on developing requirements for fire detection and prevention across different types of ships, along with standards for fire-extinguishing agents and fire-protective materials.

Special focus will be placed on innovations in the maritime industry:

  • fire protection during the maritime transport of new energy vehicles;
  • safety measures for ships using alternative fuels and technologies.
