As part of the India Maritime Week, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) delegation conducted a working meeting with senior officials from the Maritime Administration of India, represented by the Directorate General of Shipping of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways of the Government of India.
The Indian side was led by Mr. Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of Shipping and Additional Secretary to the Government of India. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Directorate General of Shipping, which included: Chief Surveyor-cum-Senior Deputy Director General Mr. Aniruddha Chaki; Nautical Surveyor-cum-Deputy Director General Captain Ravi Singh Sikarwar; Principal Officer-cum-Joint Director General of Shipping Mr. Ajithkumar Sukumaran; Chief Ship Surveyor Mr. Pradeep Sudhakar.
Discussions focused on key areas of bilateral cooperation. RS delivered a comprehensive presentation detailing its organizational activities, technical competencies, and global capabilities. Representatives of the Indian Maritime Administration confirmed the status of RS as one of its recognized organizations.
A primary achievement of the meeting was the mutual agreement to initiate the process for a formal Bilateral Agreement. The conclusion of such an agreement would provide a legal framework for RS to conduct statutory surveys on vessels operating under the Indian flag.
