As part of the India Maritime Week, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) took part in the 2025 Asia-Pacific Regional Dialogue on a Sustainable Maritime Connectivity: "Navigating Uncertainty, Advancing Together" organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
The event was dedicated to discussing current challenges in the maritime industry, including strengthening supply chain resilience, developing "green" shipping and expanding regional cooperation.
Opening remarks were delivered by key representatives of organizations, including: Mr. Weimin Ren, director of the ESCAP Transport Division; Ms. Lee Hyun, Policy Advisor to the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea; Mr. Keum-Seob Kim, Vice President of the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI); Mr. Vijay Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways of the Government of India.
On behalf of RS, Oleg Chernov, Head of the International Affairs Department, spoke about improving the sustainability of supply chains through technical support for safe navigation. He underscored the key role of classification societies in upholding fleet reliability as the cornerstone of a stable maritime transportation system.
The presentation sparked keen interest from the audience. During the Q&A session, participants directed a number of questions to the RS representative concerning the unique ice-class expertise held by RS and the outlook for Arctic navigation, with a specific focus on the Northern Sea Route.
