RS to attend PPR 13

The 13th session of the Sub-Committee on Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR 13) commences today at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Headquarters in London.

Experts from Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will participate in the plenary session and engage in the work of dedicated Working, Technical and Drafting groups.

The session’s agenda features:

  • assessment of safety and pollution hazards posed by chemical substances;
  • development of a legally binding IMO instrument on the control of ships' biofouling;
  • measures to reduce the impact of “black carbon” emissions from ships operating in the Arctic;
  • updates to IMO requirements and guidelines for ship exhaust gas cleaning systems;
  • development of amendments to the NOx Technical Code;
  • amendments to MARPOL Convention requirements on the prevention of pollution by noxious liquid substances and sewage;
  • development of mandatory provisions on preventing plastic pellet pollution.

RS will report on the session’s outcomes through its official channels.
