Arctic Gas Carrier Design

Ships intended for liquefied natural gas transportation from the Arctic shall ensure a year-round scheduled traffic. In designing such ships, two main criteria: safety and cost efficiency shall be taken into consideration.
The article presents the main research trends when developing the requirements for arctic ships carrying liquefied natural gas.
Proceeding from the analysis of research guidelines required for the design of the above ships, a conclusion is made on the necessity of applying not only traditional and well-tried solutions, but on the practicability of implementation of modern innovations which make it possible to enhance the safety and cost efficiency of the said ships operation. Research for establishing the scientific-and-technical basis for the design of promising arctic gas-carriers will ensure the reliability and safety of Russian gas delivery in future to consumers all over the world.
