Unified Electric Power Plant Installed on Board the Small Hydrographic Ship Vaigach: Design Experience and Test Results

The article presents the results of computer simulation, bench tests and sea trials of the first unified electric power plant equipped with an alternating current electric propulsion system and installed on board the small hydrographic ship Vaigach.
The commissioning of the small hydrographic ship Vaigach, pr. 19910, marked the start of obsolete hydrographic ships and motor boats being replaced by modern ones ensuring more efficient navigation and hydrographic support of shipping on the Russian Federation seaways.
High technical specifications of the newly designed unified electric power plant equipped with an alternating current electric propulsion system have been confirmed by the results of simulation and testing of the unified electric power plant with an electric propulsion system as installed on board theVaigach.
