To Regulations for the Selection of Steel for Hull Structures of Arctic Gas Carriers

The article considers the issues related to the design of gas carriers with different types of cargo tanks to operate in the arctic seas with regard to steel grade selection for hull structures.
The article presents requirements developed to ensure sufficient cold resistance of hull structures of Arctic gas carriers, which enable harmonization and simplification of the process on the design stage.
On the basis of performed research, engineering dependences are suggested for calculating the design temperatures necessary to determine the hull-structural steel grades proceeding from the ice category and the cargo tank type of the gas carrier.
