Typical Failure Models for Sea-Going Ships' Critical Components

The article presents the most frequent failure models for the sea-going ships' critical components including the ultimate (one-time) load model and the cumulative models of damage accumulation, i.e. linear model of corrosion wear, fatigue damage model and the model of friction couple mechanical wear. For the case of the analytical model absence or of insufficient basic data for calculation, the opportunity of applying the method of statistical planning of the experiment for determining the failure probability has been demonstrated. The models may be used to calculate the failure probability for critical components and units of the ship's hull, main engine, reduction gear, shafting and sterntube, propeller and steering gear
