Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) of Ice Class Ships

The EEDI calculations of existing ice class ships under the RS class are presented for compliance with the IMO requirements for different types of ships. Possible application of correction factor prescribed by IMO resolution MEPC.212(63) for the ships with the Finnish-Swedish ice class is reviewed in relation to the RS-classed ships. The conclusion is made that the correction factors of the ships with the Finnish-Swedish ice class cannot be applied to the RS-classed ships with ice classes Arc6 - Arc9.
