Radar detection of oil spills in a rough sea

The construction of a radar for oil spill detection in a rough sea is reviewed. Scattering cross-section of a target is proved to be less for an oil spill than for the clear water that enables effective oil spill detection by intelligent radars. Dependence between the maximum pollution detection range and the sea state is demonstrated.

Key words: intelligent radar, oil spills, extended scattered target, environmental solutions
