Semisubmersible mobile offshore drilling units (MODU) damage rate and the ways to reduce it

Abstract


This article shows the data processing results on the accidents of semisubmersible mobile offshore drilling units (MODU) offshore the United Kingdom for the period 1980-2005. The analysis of the causes of damage has been carried out. The possibility of reducing the risk of damage of semisubmersible MODU under service conditions by timely changing the operational mode in order to prevent breakage of the anchor line and selection of optimum draught preventing flooding of the upper deck of the semisubmersible MODU.
