Abstract
The main purpose of the research is the justification of possibility of application of welded stems instead of cast ones the ships with ice classes Arc5 — Arc9 and icebreakers. The work consists of analysis of acting rules of RS and other IACS members as well as the analysis of modern scientific, experimental and technological achievements in welding and material manufacturing, development of the methodology for cast-analogous welded stem strength calculation, and the further execution of such calculation using the analytical methods and numerical simulation (FEM analysis), confirming the possibility of the considered substitution. The results of the research are represented in proposed updating of the acting RS Rules.
