Methodological Basis of Software to Prepare Data for Direct Hull Strength Calculations of Oil Tankers and Bulk Carriers According to IACS Common Rules Requirements

The article summarizes the results of research conducted by the St. Petersburg State Maritime Technical University in 2010 at the request of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping as part of integrated study initiated by the Register to develop software for hull strength proof calculations on the basis of standards contained in IACS Common Rules for oil tankers and bulk carriers. Methodological principles have been considered of preparing data for direct hull strength calculations of oil tankers and bulk carriers in accordance with IACS Common Rules requirements. The use of licensed FEMAP-NASTRAN NX software has been substantiated to solve such tasks. Results have been given of test calculations using the software developed.
