Application of the sandwich plate system for repair of RS-classed ships

Abstract

The article describes the technology of repair of hull structures with the Sandwich Plate System (SPS), its principal advantages in comparison with traditional methods of repair, key issues of ensuring the reliability of structures repaired using this technology, as well as the possibility of its application on ships with RS class. The authors have presented the main provisions of the Organization Standard allowing to adapt this technology to the current RS Rules requirements and to accumulate the necessary statistical information on the operability of SPS structures. The article has also revealed the need for appropriate scientific and technical support for repairing procedures and subsequent monitoring of ships at the stage of pilot testing of the technology, while laying the groundwork for expanding the corresponding theoretical and experimental base.
