The Register provides technical supervision in industry, which includes materials and product certification and the recognition of firms.
RS is recognized by the European Union as an organization acting in accordance with Regulation (EC) 391/2009 and European Standard EN 17020.
Technical supervision is the verification of compliance of the items of supervision with the RS following requirements:
RS requirements are the requirements of the RS rules, international conventions and agreements, recommendations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), governments that issued RS the relevant authorization, and additional requirements.
Approval of material, product, process is the confirmation by sealing and/or by the RS document of the compliance of material, product, process with the RS requirements given the positive results of their certification.
Approval (agreement) of technical documentation is the confirmation with a stamp and/or the RS document of the compliance of technical documentation with the RS requirements given the positive results of its review.
Approval of typical material, product, process (type approval) is the approval of material, product, process that is considered by RS as a representative of the given products without reference to a specific item of technical supervision.
According to the results of technical supervision, the Register issues for the items of technical supervision the documents of the established form that certify the compliance of the item of technical supervision with the RS requirements, as well as its manufacture (construction) under the Register technical supervision.
The RS certificates (depending on the type of document) are published in electronic form or on paper. The RS certificates with digital signature are only published in electronic form; based on the certification results, an email is sent to the customer that contains a direct link to the document.
To ensure the transparency, to simplify the search for documents and to protect against forgery, a unique QR code is applied to the RS Certificates. Freely distributable software (freeware) can be used to read it.

Materials and products used in construction of ships and floating facilities classed with the Register shall be supplied to the shipyard with the certificate of conformity or other documents confirming their compliance with the RS requirements, conventions or the IMO recommendations .
Technical supervision during manufacture of materials and products only applies to the properties, parameters and characteristics, which are regulated by the RS Rules and indicated in the approved technical documentation. The RS does not substitute the prescribed activities of state supervision bodies and officials of the shipowner, shipyard or firm.
