Certification of the Ship Recycling Management System ISO 30000:2009

The ISO 30000:2009 standard (the Russian Federation has adopted a standard identical to the international standard) defines international industry related requirements for the management of environmental and safety risks associated with ship recycling operations. The main requirement of ISO 30000:2009 is aimed to establish and maintain an effective risk management system.

The ISO 30000:2009 standard provides a framework for safe, environmentally sound and socially responsible end-of-life management for ships. It is applicable to all types of ships, including commercial, marine and river ships.

The requirements for establishing a management system for the safe recycling of ships incorporate environmental and safety standards. ISO 30000:2009 is intended to be used in conjunction with other management system standards such as ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.

The ISO 30000:2009 standard establishes a set of requirements for the complete ship recycling: setting up a ship for recycling, identifying hazardous materials and substances in its structure, recycling, controlling the safe and sustainable storage and treatment of materials and waste, the waste flow, as well as managing contracts and documented information, training of personnel.

By implementing the ISO 30000:2009 standard, the organization demonstrates its commitment to responsible waste management, which protects the environment, and establishes personnel safety and contributes to sustainable development.

Certification to ISO 30000:2009 may be required by waste management and/or recycling firms, shipyards, ship owners, maritime organizations, environmental organizations, and the public sector.
