The first IMO event of 2026 – the 12th session of the Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC 12) – held between January 19-23, will be attended by the Russian delegation, including representatives of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

The main focus of the session will be on the following:

  • improving IMO guidelines on the use of FRP composites in hull structures and on the use of plastic pipes on ships;
  • evaluating efforts to reduce underwater radiated noise from ships;
  • improving SOLAS requirements and IMO guidelines for ships with nuclear power plants;
  • developing amendments to SOLAS (escape arrangements from machinery spaces; traditional and non-traditional propulsion and steering systems);
  • developing amendments to the ESP Code;
  • developing performance standards for engine control room alert management.

RS representatives will take part in the plenary meeting of the Sub-Committee as well as in the proceedings of the Working, Expert and Drafting groups established during the session for a more detailed expert-level discussion of specialized issues.

RS will report on the session’s outcomes through its official channels.
