Representatives of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will be attend the 50th session of the IMO Facilitation Committee (FAL 50), opening on March 23.
The Committee is not only responsible for keeping the 1965 Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL Convention) up to date, but is also at the forefront of one of IMO's key and most relevant areas of work – digital transformation and the adaptation of the international regulatory framework to new technological challenges.
During the upcoming session, RS experts will contribute to the development of a comprehensive IMO strategy aimed at digitalizing maritime shipping. The document is to outline the industry’s direction regarding electronic data exchange and management, establish security protocols and improve interactional efficiency among maritime transport organizations.
As part of FAL 50 and with the participation of RS, work will also continue on updating the consolidated recommendations for facilitating electronic business operations, reviewing amendments to the FAL Convention and formulating measures to enhance cybersecurity on vessels and in electronic ship‑port systems.
