Criteria for Evaluating Stability of Small Ships

Various normative documents on evaluation of stability of small ships are reviewed, and recommendations for their improvement are provided. In the context of the work carried out by RS and other classification societies for improvement of the normative documents, special attention is paid to updating of the requirements for stability as the main seaworthiness characteristic of small ships (i.e. ships with hull length LH < 24 m). Regarding improvement of their safety, the current requirements for the intact stability are reviewed and recommendations for their improvement from the designer's point of view are introduced.
