Operational risks of non-ice-resistant platforms in waters with unstable ice environment

Abstract
The problem discussed is production period extension for non-ice-resistant platforms, self-elevating MODU, for instance, in areas with transitive ice situation. It is demonstrated that a critical case for such platforms is a piece of ice stopping nearby. The statistical aspect of the problem is considered. It is emphasized that due to the numerosity of original dependences for ice load determination the main task when the risks are determined is not to create actual statistic models, but to have a reliable initial base.
