Abstract
Longitudinal strength calculations results for a ship's hull under simultaneous action of bending moments in vertical and horizontal planes and torsion moments are shown in the paper. Calculations have been carried out for the ship in service, which has wide hatch openings, for both as-built and corroded hull condition scenarios. Based on the calculations, design concepts of hull's reinforcements for safe service of the ship have been proposed. Additionally, calculations of longitudinal motion and wave bending moments for different variants of loading and speed have been carried out in order to make up recommendations for the safe operating of the ship until the reinforcement measures fulfillment. Control diagrams of still wave bending moments are also presented. Dangerous conditions of ship's loading, speed and wave parameters of sea are defined. Special recommendations for operating the ship have been proposed based on the dangerous conditions. Results of this research and findings can be used for designing and technical operation for guaranteed strength and reliability of ships with wide hatch openings.
Keywords: hull strength, ships with wide hatch openings, torsion, longitudinal strength.
