Abstract
Currently, the trim and stability evaluation of a damaged ship is based on the static calculation that does not take into account the damaged ship's roll motion. Extensive experimental research using the damaged ships' models shows that dynamic factors can have a significant impact on a ship's capsizing resistance. These conditions, further complicated by the interaction of the ship's damaged compartment with seawater, require the consideration of nonlinear problems. The present article attempts to provide a full solution for the damaged ship's motion problem using the method of Schwartz in case of the ship's bottom breach and symmetrical flooding. The tasks considered in the article can be used in constructing an elaborated solution for the damaged ship's roll and pitch assessment. Given the rapid convergence of the alternating process, it is possible to obtain practically appicable results.
Keywords: damaged ship's roll and pitch, the method of Schwartz, ship's bottom breach.
