Criteria of risk of stability loss under dead ship condition

Abstract

 

The article presents a general description of the IMO second generation intact stability criteria and more detailed description of the criterion of risk of stability loss under dead ship condition, outlines the methods used in the second level of the criterion, provides the analysis of the normative value of the second level criterion, describes the third level of the criterion and the results of a trial comparative calculation using the first and second levels. The maturity level of the criterion and further tentative actions to complete its development are also indicated. The development of the new criteria of risk of stability loss under dead ship condition is premised on the fact that the existing weather criterion considers the effect of wind and waves with specified characteristics providing the certain safety level of ships with unrestricted area of navigation, while other possible scenarios during a ship's operation remain outside of the scope of consideration. The analysis of the new criterion has allowed to assess the possibility of application of probabilistic methods in stability rationing.
