Abstract

The article considers the issue of the functional sustainability of temporary refuges of the main types of offshore oil and gas facilities. The main aims of the article are to emphasize the need of adaptation the temporary refuge to the design and operational features of offshore structures. It is noted that temporary refuge, which is an integral part of the offshore structure, does not provide the necessary level of safety of the personnel during the development of the accident leading to heavy damage and destruction of the marine installation. A conceptual version of an autonomous floating rescue unit is proposed in the article, as a special type of refuge providing a higher level of safety of people in comparison to the traditionally used versions of temporary refuges of offshore oil and gas facilities.

Keywords: temporary refuge, gravitational marine structure, semi-submersible drilling rig, jack-up drilling rig, autonomous floating rescue unit, evacuation.
