RS brings a vision of sustainable shipping to Myanmar conference
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) shared its expertise in nuclear-powered vessels, Arctic navigation and autonomous shipping at a conference marking World Maritime Day in Yangon, Myanmar, on September 23–24, 2026. RS attended at the invitation of the Department of Marine Administration under the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
RS Deputy Director General Georgiy Bedrik delivered a presentation on solutions for sustainable shipping, outlining RS’s experience in the classification and technical supervision of nuclear-powered vessels, its role in supporting safe navigation along the Northern Sea Route and its readiness to work with maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS).
The presentation highlighted RS’s distinctive expertise in the classification of nuclear-powered vessels and floating power units, alongside its position as one of the first classification societies to develop rules for MASS. Together, these capabilities support sustainable shipping by helping reduce the industry’s carbon footprint, develop Arctic routes and introduce autonomous technologies.
During the event, RS also held talks with the leadership of Myanmar’s Department of Marine Administration. Discussions focused on current cooperation and opportunities to strengthen ties, including extending the scope of recognition granted to RS by the Myanmar maritime authority.
