Representatives of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) took part in the 10th session of the Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (CCC 10) as members of the Russian delegation.

Apart from key outcomes concerning the revision of requirements for the transportation of bulk cargoes, the Sub-Committee:

  • finalized the draft interim guidelines for the safety of ships using ammonia as fuel. The draft interim guidelines together with the respective Circular will be submitted, with a view to approval, to the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) 109 in December 2024;
  • completed reviewing the International Code of the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code) and agreed to a package of over 100 draft amendments aimed at improving the design processes of ships under construction and increasing the safety of gas carriers in operation. Among the most significant are changes to the use of LPG and ethane cargoes as fuel, revisions of requirements for CO2 transportation and emergency shutdown systems (ESD). Other changes cover the design framework for cargo storage systems utilizing Type C tanks and requirements for cargo tank fill limits. The draft amendments will be submitted to MSC 109 for approval, subsequent adoption at MSC 110 and publication of the consolidated version of the IGC Code in 2028.
  • agreed to the draft Revised recommendations for entering enclosed spaces aboard ships (Resolution A.1050(27)), for submission to MSC 110 in June 2025 for adoption;
  • drafted amendments (08-25) to the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code. The Editorial and Technical Group (E&T) was tasked to finalizing the amendments at its 41st meeting for submission to MSC 110.
  • analyzed a number of issues related to the safe carriage of vehicles on board ships, mitigation of container fires as well as measures to prevent the loss of containers at sea.
