The 111th session of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee will be held at IMO Headquarters in London between May 13-22. The Committee will consider a substantial number of draft amendments to chapters IV and V of the SOLAS Convention together with related IMO instruments.
Representatives of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will partake in the session as members of the national delegation.
The main focus will center around the further development and subsequent adoption of the non-mandatory Code for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS Code). More than 20 documents submitted by Member States and international organizations have been put forward for consideration under this agenda item, including two contributions from the Russian Federation.
The Committee will continue its comprehensive review of alternative fuels and technologies with a view to developing requirements and recommendations to ensure crew and ship safety.
In addition, participants will examine the latest audit of classification society rules, including RS Rules, for compliance with the Goal-based ship construction standards for bulk carriers and oil tankers.
MSC 111 plans to review the session outcomes of IMO subsidiary bodies held in 2025 and 2026, including:
RS experts will attend the Committee’ plenary session and take active part in dedicated Working, Technical and Drafting groups established for issue-specific discussions on the development of requirements and recommendations for maritime safety.
