The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has considered and expressed support for the proposal to include requirements for the transportation of apatite concentrate in the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code set out by the Russian Federation.

Specialists of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) took an active part in the preparation of the draft proposal, as well as in the work of the 10th session of the IMO Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (September 16-20) and the meeting of its Editorial & Technical Group (September 23-27). The Group, comprising of the world's leading experts on maritime transportation of bulk cargoes, was tasked to review the proposal of the Russian delegation and draft relevant amendments to the IMSBC Code.

In the course of the meeting, the Russian side provided answers to all questions from foreign experts regarding the characteristics and transportation conditions of apatite concentrate. The amendments to the IMSBC Code, finalized as a result of the discussion, should be adopted by IMO in 2025 with entry into force date January 1, 2027.

The expansion of the Code’s cargo nomenclature will significantly simplify the procedures for processing and approving permits, in turn leading to optimized international logistics.
