The Intersessional Working Group on Air Pollution and Energy Efficiency has concluded its work at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

During the meeting on the review of short-term measures to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships RS representatives actively participated in discussions on:

  • establishing the annual operational carbon intensity indicator (CII) reduction factors for 2027-2030;
  • revising access rules to the IMO Ship Fuel Oil Consumption Database (IMO DCS);
  • refining the CII calculation methods also through clarifying the definitions of ship’s idle time and waiting time at port;
  • developing a dedicated CII calculation methodology for cruise ships.

The Intersessional Group finalized draft amendments to MARPOL Annex VI concerning access to IMO DCS data and formulated a set of recommendations for the review of short-term GHG reduction measures, including a detailed action plan to enhance requirements up to 2028.

The meeting outcomes are currently under consideration by the 83rd session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee.
